Please take the time and trouble to read some of the guests comments below:- Dear Barbara Thank you so much for letting us stay in your wonderful villa you must be very proud of it . It is the best place we have stayed in for quite a time. It’s nice to be on our own and not to have to share the area with others. The boys loved the pool! Yours Meryl
Barbara & John, We arrived to a warm welcome from John & Kate & a very useful 4X4 driving lesson! Your villa is beautiful & really cosy & well equipped. We enjoyed the stunning scenery by foot & on horseback, finding the neighbouring stables friendly & pleasant. The privacy & seclusion of the villa’s location made for a lovely relaxing holiday & we all thoroughly enjoyed the pool. We visited Lucca, Pisa & Florence all easy travelling distances away & I’m sure we’ll be back in Tuscany again! Claire & Mike, Lydia & Chris (West Mids )
Hello Barbara & John We stayed in your cottage from 21-8 to 4-9 and we enjoyed it very much, it’s a wonderful country with nice people, climate and too much good food! The first trip with the panda was an adventure! But after three times it was also fun. We like to make compliments for the fact that everything we needed was available in your cottage! We will be back in Tuscany!!! Arienne Harry Bart & Sarah
John & Barbara We’ve had a great 2 weeks holiday, can’t wait to come back! The idyllic location of the villa is matched by the style and charm of the villa itself. We didn’t eat out as much as most (the barbeque delivers delicious char grilled garlic chicken) however we would recommend Café del Sonno in Bagni-probably the best ever macaroni with fungi there is! Do be aware that the Italians (like the French) prefer raw steak! Pisa is well worth a visit for shopping and the tower & surrounding buildings are very impressive! The old town of Lucca is also worth a trip Thanks and all the best Ewan & Kathy
Dear Barbara & John Villa Joba is the perfect place for a quiet, restful honeymoon after stressful wedding preparations! We were made to feel very welcome by John & Kate and the sparkling wine- thanks very much! We spent many evenings in the villa as the weather was mainly fine and the BBQ was very successful. This was a once in a lifetime holiday for us, but we would like to visit Italy again in a few years time. Helen & Darren
Barbara & John We all very much enjoyed our stay at Villa Joba . The weather has been great and the food ( & wine ) superb Although we have been to Italy many times this has been the most fun . To the next guests to the villa – throw away your itinerary, relax, and adjust to Tuscan time & Enjoy Jason Lorraine Joseph & Thomas
Dear Barbara & John Enjoyed our stay here very much thank you! There was the eating, and the drinking and the swimming, and the tanning and the scenery, and the arts & architecture, and the horse trekking, and the hiking, and the just doing nothing around your peaceful little villa. We only had a week here but we’ve crammed a fortnight’s stuff into it including several lazy days by the pool Loved the ride up & down in the panda!!!! Loved the horse trekking definitely worth doing just for the view at the top but quite an adventure nonetheless! Thanks again Richard Jenny Jamie Vicky
Barbara & John Thank you for another excellent 2 weeks holiday excellent weather all the time with the temperature in the 30’s. The pool was used extensively and was much needed. Like previous writers we enjoyed the Villa Aurora very much excellent food and view at a very reasonable price. We also ate at the devils bridge restaurant, which has a good atmosphere and was priced reasonably. Claire and the kids had another fantastic horse ride with the people from Ruscello and saw some incredible views from a very high vantage point that they are still talking about. I think the speed of the riding i.e. very fast was also much enjoyed. Mike, Claire, Lydia & Christopher
To Barbara & John, We are writing this at the end of our stay at Villa Joba. Busy sightseeing days and lazy days by the pool blended into a great two weeks holiday. The weather was hot the beer and wine flowed, and good food was enjoyed at Del sonno and Albergo Corona, but most of all our barbeques sitting on the patio listening to both your and our own C.D’s relaxing fun and exciting
We have had a wonderfully relaxing time, enjoying peace, tranquillity and views. Beautifully bright hot sunny days doing very little. Visited Lucca & Pisa. Otherwise read to our hearts content thanks to your excellent library, I chose to read three of your books and save mine for home Kevin mastered the 4X4 panda by the end of the week!! You have a lovely cosy, friendly little house in an idyllic setting all your hard work has paid off and you must be proud. Thank you both for daring to let it out otherwise we wouldn’t have had the privilege. Thanks also to John and Kate for being here at our arrival. Lynn & Kevin Jones
Dear Barbara & John Our weather here during the week has been excellent with warm sunny days & an occasional thunderstorm at night. As a result much of our time has been spent relaxing and reading in the tranquil atmosphere. We did visit Lucca & would recommend the “my guide” tour available from both information bureaux this is an electronic guide which you take whilst you walk through the city. At approx £3 it was a bargain & most informative. The helpful people who were so tolerant of two Brits who spoke no Italian made shopping in Bagni simple. Katherine has pointed out that I have not mentioned the enjoyment that we have had from Villa Joba itself. Everything that we could need has been to hand & it is almost like being in one’s own home. We have stayed in a number of rental properties where the inventory is basic in the extreme. Villa Joba has all the home comforts we could desire, the barbeque has been used extensively and has performed well whilst the fresh herbs from the garden have added flavour. We were even able to enjoy the fresh figs. Thanks to John & Kate for their initial welcome & help. All in all excellent Many thanks Vince
Dear John & Barbara, We have had a super time; the villa is so well equipped it makes the holiday so easy. We have had some super lunches at Villa Aurora & saw your photos when with very pigeon Italian we managed to explain where we were staying. Thanks for all the thought you have obviously put in to make this such a great place to stay. Sarah Paul & Luke
Dear John & Barbara, Many thanks; we have had a perfect holiday. We searched through brochures & web sites until we found Villa Joba & it has been exactly as described!! The privacy peace & comfort has made this one of the best holidays yet. The wildlife has been diverse & most entertaining, from performing goats to Rays favourite, the fireflies at night. Shopping locally was a pleasure, the friendliness was amazing, and the food was very good. Finally the log fires at night & listening to music will be a wonderful memory when we get back to our hectic lifestyle. Many thanks to John & Kate it was interesting talking to you & made a great start to our holiday. Love Ray & Glenda.
Dear John & Barbara, Thanks so much for our time at your villa. Everyday had a new adventure from trips to Lucca & San Gimignano to “rock water sliding” in the river. We really enjoyed the animals – one morning we had a visit from the horses! With the fireflies, there were nights on the patio we just didn’t want to come in. Dinner at Villa Aurora was a treat. Today we are heading back to northern Italy to school & work a lot more relaxed Jim & Diane Darnton Hannah & Luke
As soon as we’d arrived we both felt that we would miss it already! Many thanks to John & Barbara for allowing us to spend our honeymoon in Villa Joba. It has been the most relaxing, enjoyable 7-day break – unbelievable – and thoroughly recommended to all that body & mind require! its our first time in Italy, San Gimignano is absolutely breath taking – real Italy Tuscan style. The weather has blessed us. On our last night we ate at Villa Aurora – excellent food & friendly faces! We will never forget our stay at Villa Joba. Happy Hols Zoe & Ian (Newlyweds Colchester Essex)
As so many others have mentioned, we’re indebted to John & Kate for showing us the features of the house and John’s patient willingness to ride the driveway with Bill until he was comfortable negotiating it –who needs the Indiana Jones ride at Disneyland when you’ve got the Villa Joba driveway!!!! The house is one of the most comfortable and well equipped we’ve rented over many years of summer trips to many places. We agree with previous tenants- both Villa Aurora & Del Sonno were excellent & reasonably priced A week has flown by we could easily have stayed another week!!! The Hogans

Dear John & Barbara The villa is as near perfect as possible- a wonderful place to spend your 30th anniversary. We had wonderful weather and greatly enjoyed the pool and sitting out under the stars on the warm evenings. The villa was such a relaxing place that we did not do as much sightseeing as we meant to. We visited Pisa & enjoyed our visit to San Gimignano. Walking round the walls of Lucca was a favourite experience, with great views into the city. We spent a very pleasant evening at Villa Aurora and also had enjoyable meals here. Thank you to John & Kate for their help when we arrived and for their patience with those who felt sure they could get a Citroen Xantia up the drive!!! Thanks for a great time Pat Laura Luke & Richard
Dear John & Barbara, This is our third stay at Villa Joba & it is as wonderful as ever! We have enjoyed a lovely lazy week in beautiful weather actually doing very little & feeling totally relaxed. It was nice to see John & Kate again & Villa Joba looks particularly lovely with its new window boxes. As we had only a week here our sightseeing was limited to a trip to Lucca. We had a busier week last week in the Lake Garda region, visiting Venice & Verona. Our week at Villa Joba went very quickly & we look forward to our next visit! With kind regards Claire Mike Lydia & Christopher
We’ve had a fantastic holiday – the villa and the setting here are superb. A great welcome from John & Kate & for their very useful advice (not to mention the 4x 4 lesson) I knew it would be a doddle! For other visitors, a number of highlights – Lucca - essential visiting. Somewhere to burn a hole in the credit cards! We took the train – tickets can only be bought via the machine at the station (fairly user friendly) We enjoyed Del Sonno in town (a number of times) and “Villa Aurora” is a must – forget the menu and go with the flow. The terrace restaurant at the Hotel Universo in Lucca was also excellent but quite expensive Hannah & Elia have really enjoyed themselves & have consumed vast quantities of pasta!! Thanks again Lots of love Michael Judith Elia & Hannah
We have had a really lovely week here. We had a good journey from Genoa airport & a lovely welcome from John & Kate. It was a bit chilly to start with in the cottage- we are the first visitors this year. However , we soon got the place warmed up & the log fires were lovely!! We have packed in such a lot this week – Sunday we vegetated but on Monday we went to Barga, Tuesday we did Florence (stunning) Wednesday we had a lovely time in Lucca (am) and Pisa (pm). The tower was amazing, but the best was buying lots of lovely tacky presents for our lucky friends and relatives. On Thursday John set off at the crack of dawn and went walking in the Alpi Apuane – he set off to climb Pania della Croce, but the path was too snowy!! We recommend the Esselunga supermarket, on the way to Lucca. We have had a brilliant week, enjoyed the highest temperature in Europe on Wednesday, and are sorry to be going home, but must before we buy any more leather bags!!! A lovely cottage in a lovely place. Chris, John, Amy & Tom ( 30th Mar – 6thApr)
SATURDAY. Beautiful drive from Zocca via Abetone.Arrived early so made a good decision to have lunch at Villa Aurora. Made very welcome when they found we were staying at Villa Joba. The sun came out. Met John & Kate & passed the advanced 4X4 driving course!!! SUNDAY. Chill out day in the sun + BBQ MONDAY A day out in the Garfagnana. Castiglione di Garfagnana very attractive. Barga very quiet. Bought a large fresh trout from the fish farm 2km up the SS12. Very good eating. TUESDAY A full day in Lucca. Very worthwhile. WEDNESDAY Walked into town. THURSDAY Defeated the rain by having another pleasant long lunch at the Villa Aurora. Drove up to Orrido di Botri fantastic scenery even in dull weather. FRIDAY Another chill out day before moving on to spend a week Florence. That will certainly be a contrast! SUMMARY We have had a really pleasant week in a home from home. The villa was all we expected and the log fire really livened up any cool evenings. Many thanks Pat & Geoff

We’ve really enjoyed our stay here. Its great to stay somewhere where so much is provided- right down to the garlic press & the Cappuccino machine- thanks! Like so many before us we’ve really enjoyed the gorgeous food at the Villa Aurora, together with a great welcoming atmosphere. We’ve had a lovely week with lots of mountain village excursions, riding and the interesting experience of buying trout from the local fish farm. We are really sad to go home. Thanks for a great holiday

Dear Barbara & John, We have had a splendid holiday – a lovely mixture of lazy days at the villa and sightseeing around the area. The local food has been a highlight especially Villa Aurora. The boys enjoyed the pool. The house and garden are wonderfully peaceful and private. We visited my relations in Barga – spectacular panoramic views and an interesting old town. We also visited relations in Viareggio. The boys enjoyed jumping off the rocks into the deep river pools, we’ve visited Pisa, Lucca and been to Pinocchio village and the Grotto del Vento. Each meal we have had has seemed to be better than the last. Many thanks The Macraes
An excellent week, with only one day of questionable weather. Florence lived up to expectations & is well worth the trip we went by train from Fornoli & the trip is really easy. Italian trains are very cheap by comparison to the UK. All the connections worked ok. The pool was a boon in the hot weather. We were glad that there were no mosquitoes or midges- definitely a bonus! Lots to see and do – Lucca, Pisa,Barga, Florence and mountains. We visited the Aurora restaurant twice – excellent food, very pleasant ambience and very reasonable prices. A winning combination! Off now for a week near Arezzo. We’ll have no complaints if this is as good as our first. The Parsons
We arrived after a noisy and crowded week in Antibes,
France. Thank you so much John and Barbara! This has indeed been a week to remember. Kindest regards Leah, State and Karine (Stavanger Norway)
Dear Barbara & John We have had a fantastic week at Villa Joba, just what we needed after life in the fast lane. The Villa is wonderful and a very peaceful retreat in the country. Our weather has been wonderful, very hot around 32C at times. You have certainly made a good job of restoring the villa, John & I have spent the week dreaming of owning a place just like it. We are a bit subdued at leaving tomorrow, however we hope to be back. Thanks to john & Kate for a warm welcome we have to leave early tomorrow, so we won’t see them, they are a lovely couple & very patient when it comes to negotiating the road. We will think of Villa Joba regularly and our experience in Italy. Thank you
Rose
& John.
Dear Barbara & John, We haven’t left much time to add our bit to Joba’s memoirs as we are leaving in 10 mins for pisa – but we have had a truly memorable holiday. Food – all John & Barbaras recommendations were tried and found excellent. Sonno & Aurora by far the best. We also liked Di Vinci by the bridge & Daniella’s at the bottom of the drive. Florence was much easier than expected. Parked in the suburbs and took a bus into the centre. Saturday is a quiet day to go but go early most places close at lunchtime. Most fun?- horseriding, biking on the walls of Lucca and visiting the Uffizi. The Kirby family(Kent)
Have had a lovely honeymoon week at villa joba. Have not ventured far from the villa due to the non-stop glorious sunshine & pool. Experienced the culinary delights of Il Russcello at the bottom of the hill & well recommended. John & Kate have been a great help this week and have given us some good advice. We have fallen in love with the Tuscan countryside and will definitely be returning Jo & Stuart (Kent)
Dear Barbara & John We have seen the tower lean in Pisa, Climbed Il Duomo and walked Ponte Vecchio in 45deg C in Florence, climbed the tower to touch the highest oaks in Lucca and ambled its walls – each time to return to the peace and tranquillity of villa joba. The pool so refreshing the villa so comfortable an ideal way to relax. Thank you John & Kate for making us feel at home. We cooked barbequed and enjoyed all the local produce, drunk much wine & ate at restaurant at the bottom of the drive. We go home now via the Ferrari shrine at Marranello & the northern lakes. Thank you Barbara & John for helping with directions. We would love to come back Sarah & John (Horsham Sussex)
A very enjoyable and full fortnight was had. Highlights (of which there were many) are Barga – a must see town, Montecarlo vineyards – Tuscany at its most beautiful,Lucca – a must do cycling & shopping trip, Vinci, great food anc the Leonardo museum is excellent. One essential “must” for every one is a visit to Marchellos & Daniellas at the bottom of the hill –“Il Ruscello” – you have never eaten food quite like it and so much a lovely, friendly couple – we had 5 meals there and plan to stay in touch with them. Also, we went trekking on horses with Marcello for two hours – absolutely fantastic but not for the feint hearted, very steep climbs but well worth it. The pool also is a must for those relaxing days. It was hot 30 – 40 deg C for the whole two weeks. Everything was wonderful – will be coming back to Tuscany for sure. Richard Foster & Pam (I.O.M.)
Very good week in Villa joba. Very hot week We enjoyed very much- The cottage – peace & tranquillity! Swimming pool was great. The terrace and breakfast out of doors. Fireflies at night. We recommend Lucca and Pisa by train from Fornoli (the station before Pisa Centrale is only a couple of minutes from the tower). Meals – Great at Marchello & Daniella’s at foot of path Devils Bridge Pizzas Villa Aurora Thanks to John & Kate for a great welcome & lots of tips The McMillan family (Edinburgh)
This has been a truly enjoyable week at villa Joba, a great way to celebrate our wedding anniversary. It is our fifth time in Tuscany and so we have been to many of the major sightseeing places and so we have used this week to explore the small villages in the hills and to have a well earned rest. John has spent all week trying to work out the advantages / disadvantages of owning a place in Italy. He has been like a child with a new toy when he has had to drive up and down the hill, he has found it as enjoyable as quad-biking. A big thankyou for John and Kate who helped us to settle in by explaining how to drive the car and how to work things that we may have needed. I was very impressed with how the villa had everything that one could possibly need and it was a privilege to have been able to share your Italian home. Thankyou. John & Anne-Marie (Bolton)
A lovely villa for our family to stay in – our favourite place we have stayed in – lovely to be able to relax away from crowds. The pool is fantastic as are the various “beaches” next to the river Lima – swimming in the river is very refreshing. Florence – a good place for a visit but recommend taking the train rather than driving- (directions for driving in the city are not easy). Lovely food in Bagni – especially at Ristorante di Mammo and Gellateria by the roadside. Also we had a fantastic meal at bottom of the hill. Many thanks for a lovely villa. Jon, Sophie, Ben, & Sam
We have had a great holiday here at villa Joba. The weather has been lovely and warm, apart from one spectacular thunderstorm on the first day! The villa is very quiet and peaceful, and the swimming pool great on hot days (which was all of them) Some highlights were:- *Hiring bikes and cycling round the city walls at Lucca *Going on the ski lifts and cable cars at Cutigliano and Abetone, where there were amazing views at the top of the mountains. *Eating lovely icecreams in the gelateria in Bagni *seeing the leaning tower of Pisa *Visiting little Tuscan villages. We certainly enjoyed our stay and would love to come back some time. Martin, Clare, Kate (13), and Hannah (11) from Surrey
Lovely little villa in a beautiful location We loved the area especially the mountain villages, great trip to Abetone – the chair lifts were brilliant. The leaning tower & square of Miracles is amazing and easy to get to. We’ve had a wonderful time in the villa and finished the week with a meal at the bottom of the drive. Well recommended! Thank you John and Kate for their welcome. We have felt really at home.
David, Karen, Jonathan & Christopher ( Hampshire ) A well equipped cottage in a beautiful setting. Some rain in the first week, the second was wall to wall sunshine & the pool was most welcome. The food & setting at villa Aurora is excellent, Del sonno was also excellent with more choice & we were impressed by the Pizza restaurant at Devils bridge. Having visited Florence a couple of times last year we travelled further afield to San Gimignano & Sienna. It was a long day but well worth the trip, certainly not places to be missed. We also visited Pisa & made several trips to Lucca. Many thanks to John & Kate for their welcome & assistance when we arrived they couldn’t have been more helpful. Rick & Clare, Durham
